WAITATI
Rail town reborn
Friday, November 23, Waitati Hall, 8pm show, or whenever charter guests arrive.
Travel possible ex Dunedin or Sawyers Bay - travel included in ticket price.
For this extraordinary journey, the itinerary is simple. With the help of Dunedin Railways, we're chartering a train.
Floating over the water of West Harbour as it follows the former suburban line to Port Chalmers, this train keeps going, through the great Mihiwaka tunnel and sweeping views over Purakaunui and Doctors Point, to the auspiciously solar-paneled town of Waitati. Not since the last days of railcars has Waitati been so frequently visited by passenger rail - this summer, The Seasider, as this train is known, will run at least daily.
Tickets include the show and travel from Dunedin Station to Waitati (including return if required) via Dunedin Railways. This makes the highly discounted price of travel possible. The train will have a licensed bar on board, and Waitati Hall is a few hundred metres from where the train stops.
